On September 24, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Abdalla Hamdok, Prime Minister of the Transitional Government of Sudan, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi conveyed the congratulations of Chinese leaders on Abdalla Hamdok's assumption of office. Wang Yi said, Sudan is at a new stage of development at present and the joint transition process has witnessed positive progress, which the Chinese side welcomes. Stability is the overriding priority. Only by maintaining national stability can change and progress be achieved. It is hoped that Sudan can realize national peace, stability and development at an early date. China and Sudan are good friends, good partners and good brothers who have stood the test of time, and the two peoples share a profound traditional friendship. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries. Over the past 60 years, the two sides have always understood, trusted and supported each other. This fine tradition should be carried forward. The Chinese side will, as always, support Sudan's efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and will continue to provide assistance to Sudan within its capacity and strengthen practical cooperation in various fields.

Abdalla Hamdok asked Wang Yi to convey his greetings and wishes to Chinese leaders. He said, the relations between Sudan and China enjoy a time-honored history and the two peoples have a profound brotherly friendship. The people of Sudan will never forget the great China's huge contributions to the independence and liberation movement of Africa and its valuable help to promote the security and development of Africa. The Sudanese government is making every effort to realize national stability and development and looks forward to continued support and assistance from the Chinese side.
