On May 11, 2022, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq visited the Chinese Embassy in Sudan at the invitation of Ambassador Ma Xinmin. Both sides held cordial talks on China-Sudan relations and other issues like Sudan’s political situation and the Global Security Initiative.

Noting that China and Sudan are close friends and strategic partners with an enduring bond of friendship, mutual trust and shared aspiration for win-win cooperation, Ambassador Ma said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations 63 years ago, our two countries have achieved sustained and healthy development in bilateral relationship and fruitful outcomes in our practical cooperation on various fronts. After Sudan embarked on its political transition, bilateral relations, as led by the leaders of both sides, have stood the test and maintained a positive momentum. In the face of the once-in-a-century pandemic, China and Sudan have pulled together and looked out for each other in adversity. The successful visit of the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun to Sudan not long ago further strengthened our political mutual trust, Ambassador Ma remarked.

Ambassador Ma reaffirmed China’s position to support the people of Sudan in resolving the problems of the country independently and the authority of Sudan in finding a development path suited to national conditions. China calls on the parties concerned in Sudan to narrow differences through dialogue and achieve consensus in a way that preserves people’s interest and national stability. This will lay a solid foundation for a smooth political transition. China also calls on other countries to resume economic support to Sudan to help it overcome difficulties in economic and social development, and will work with them to facilitate early achievement of peace, stability and development in Sudan. Ma pledged that China is ready to work together with Sudan to further deepen political mutual trust, accelerate the pace of major projects for our practical cooperation such as the China-aid slaughter house project and enhance people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, so as to bring bilateral strategic partnership to new heights. Ambassador Ma also briefed Sadiq on the Global Security Initiative recently proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

For his part, Sadiq spoke highly of the Global Security Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping, saying that this initiative dovetails with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and meets the interests and concerns of developing countries, bringing a new perspective on response to global security challenges. He also highly praised the achievements in bilateral relationship over the years after Sudan and China established diplomatic relations, saying that Sudan and China are long-term friends and Sudan treasures the strategic partnership with China and the traditional friendship between the two peoples. He added that Sudan is now at a key stage of political transition and appreciates China’s efforts to speak up for Sudan on international occasions and its valuable support to Sudan in various fields. He pointed out that Sudan is ready to work with China in the same direction by propelling key projects of common interest at a faster pace and continuing to cement bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, livestock, oil and mining sectors. He wished Sudan-China relationship greater progress in the future.
